 For more information on the "Canadian Naval Centennial" Sailors and Songs: A Musical Tribute to a Century of Canadian Naval Service This concert road show is a major CNC activity to connect with Canadians. It is entitled “Sailors and Songs - A Musical tribute to 100 Years of Naval Service to Canada". The aim of this event is to bring the Canadian Navy to Canadians through a national traveling musical show highlighting over a century of history and naval service to Canada. The musical repertoire will cover the birth of the navy; the development through World War I; the build-up to World War II; the Battle of the Atlantic; the impact the navy had on Canada and its home front/families; re-building the navy through the 50’s and 60’s; our modern fleet; and finally how the navy’s ready to meet the challenges of the future. The aim of the Canadian Naval Centennial is to build and strengthen in Canadians an appreciation for their navy and to promote the role of the navy within the Canadian Forces in a maritime nation like Canada. The theme is to “Bring the Navy to Canadians” and events will be focused to honour the past, to showcase the current navy and to reinforce the requirement for the future navy. The centennial will be a momentous milestone both in our navy and nation’s history. We will honour the past, celebrate our achievements and recognize our obligation to Canada with the naval centennial slogan: Commemorate, Celebrate, Commit. Canadians are encouraged to become involved in the centennial of our nation’s navy by joining in any of the public celebrations occurring near you.
